The city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas is increasingly establishing itself as a wedding destination; this time, it was a same-sex marriage.
“The couple decided to unite their lives and break the social stigma against a sector of society, because they are members of the LGBTQ+ community and have the right to marry,” said one of the guests.
Amid shouts of “Long live the newlyweds!” and applause from family and friends, they celebrated the marriage during their procession along the Santo Domingo del Carmen pedestrian walkway in San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
To the rhythm of a batucada band, the couple danced, enjoying kisses and hugs along the way, watched by locals and tourists alike, and some were surprised to see them kissing.
The couple arrived at the esplanade of the Arco del Carmen, where they took a commemorative photo and received congratulations and best wishes from family and friends. Afterward, they went to the reception hall for the toast and the celebration.
It should be noted that in the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, it is common to see wedding celebrations on weekends along the city’s tourist walkways, many of the couples coming from central or northern Mexico.
