On Thursday morning, members of the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside demonstrated by parking a line of tractors outside the Grupo Modelo brewery, located in the municipality of Calera, as part of their protests against the reform of the National Water Law.

Alberto de Santiago Murillo, representative of the Association of Irrigated Agricultural Areas in Zacatecas, clarified that the protest was peaceful and did not affect third parties or the operation of the brewery, which is considered the largest in the world.

He explained that the demonstration aimed to highlight that the reform proposed by the federal government only grants greater privileges and concessions to large monopolies such as mining, brewing, and soft drink companies, while placing farmers at a significant disadvantage.

The protesters are also demanding that the federal government and legislators, before approving the new National Water Law, first conduct a hydrological study to determine the actual situation of the aquifers and the availability of water in each state and in the different regions.
