After a difficult recovery from the prolonged effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is estimated that meetings tourism in Yucatán will generate an economic impact of 1.6 billion pesos in 2026.

David Escalante Lombard, director of the Public Trust for the Development of Meetings Tourism in Yucatán (Fideture), specified that this impact will come from 147 congresses and conventions already scheduled for next year, which are expected to attract 69,652 national and international visitors.

Regarding the International Congress Center (CIC), a venue managed by Fideture, he noted that it will close 2025 with 115 events, representing a 319% increase compared to the 36 held in 2024, “meaning it will occupy 79 additional dates compared to the previous year.”

“This progress is due to the collaboration between the public and private sectors to attract large-scale national events, including the National Olympics and a DIF (National System for Integral Family Development) event scheduled for the coming days,” he explained.

He asserted that these figures reaffirm Mérida as one of the most competitive destinations in the country in this sector, on par with cities like Monterrey, Guadalajara, Cancún, Querétaro, and Mexico City itself.

Escalante Lombard specified that of the events scheduled for 2025 in Mérida, 51 will be held at the International Congress Center and 96 at other venues such as the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention Center, hotels, haciendas, and historic buildings.
