The Secretary of Tourism in Guerrero, Simón Quiñones Orozco, stated that they anticipate a high number of Canadian visitors to the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo destination, despite Canada updating its travel advisory for Mexico on November 17th, expanding its recommendation to avoid non-essential travel to 14 states due to high levels of violence.
In statements to reporters this Friday after attending the Second Annual Report of Rector Javier Saldaña Almazán, he explained that they will seek dialogue with the relevant authorities to address the international travel advisories, primarily through official channels, so that the advisory for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo can be reconsidered.
“We are expecting a high number of Canadian tourists in the state of Guerrero, mainly in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo and Acapulco. We will continue working, because it is of utmost importance to address and comply with international travel advisories,” he stated.
Quiñones Orozco stated that more tourism promotion is needed, especially improving connections and connectivity to prevent a decrease in the number of international visitors, primarily from the United States and Canada.
It is necessary to increase tourism promotion, especially by improving connections and connectivity, so that we don’t lose the number of international visitors, primarily from the United States and Canada. Simón Quiñones Orozco, Secretary of Tourism in Guerrero.
It should be noted that Canada is one of the main international markets for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, along with the United States. Tourist arrivals are concentrated during the winter season (December-March).
In recent years, Canadians have represented a significant portion of the foreign tourism arriving at the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo International Airport.
In this regard, the Guerrero Tourism Secretariat has promoted tourism initiatives internationally, particularly with the United States government, which has updated its travel advisories advising its citizens against traveling to Mexico.
