The Pro-Tenis Chiapas team officially announced the Chiapas 2025 National Grade 3 Tennis Tournament, which will take place from December 5th to 7th at the Duxla Sports Club in the Chiapas state capital. The announcement was made during a press conference in which the organizing team emphasized the importance of reactivating sanctioned tournaments in the state, after more than a year and a half without national competitions due to the lack of an association recognized by the Mexican Tennis Federation (FMT).

During the press conference, Pro-Tenis representatives stressed that the lack of federation sanction has forced young tennis players and their families to travel constantly to other states to obtain national ranking points. This entails a considerable investment of time and resources, a situation that the new tournament aims to alleviate.

“It’s truly important that we can start holding these kinds of events in Chiapas. Players need opportunities to compete at a high level and earn ranking points without leaving the state,” said the organizers, who emphasized the team’s commitment to promoting the development of tennis in Chiapas.

Pro Tenis Chiapas, a team formed just three months ago, has worked tirelessly to bring this tournament to fruition. Its members include Lucía Penagos, Paola Alonso, and Regina Medina, along with collaborators such as Héctor Trujillo, Isaac Jacobone, Alejandro Esteban, and Alejandro Hernández, who have contributed their time, effort, and resources to make the event possible.

Lucía Penagos, considered the driving force behind the tournament’s organization, shared that it has been weeks of continuous work—including nights and weekends—with the goal of offering a competition that “makes a difference” compared to what has been seen in the state.

As part of the new features, Pro-Tenis unveiled the handcrafted trophies that will be awarded to the winners, created in collaboration with the Chiapas House of Handicrafts. Each piece, made by local artisans, seeks to highlight the state’s cultural identity and become a memorable recognition for the participants.

In addition to the tournament, the event will include social and cultural activities such as:

An adoption fair organized by Adopta Dejando Huella (Adopt Leaving a Mark)
A book fair to promote reading among children and young people
Food and sportswear stands
The organizers assured that it is a comprehensive event “unprecedented in the city,” with the goal of making it an annual highlight.

The tournament is open to players aged 8 to 18, and registration remains open. Pro Tenis Chiapas invites families and young people from both the state and other regions to participate in this competition, which is sanctioned by the Mexican Tennis Federation.

“Promoting tennis in Chiapas is fundamental. We want children to have access to quality tournaments in their own city,” they stated.

With this effort, Pro-Tenis Chiapas seeks to set a precedent and pave the way for future projects that will strengthen tennis in the state during 2025 and the coming years.
