The December holidays of 2025 are about to begin, marking the end of one year and the start of a new school year. While low temperatures are a concern in central and northern Mexico, in Quintana Roo, the question is when the long-awaited break will begin.
The holiday period, which offers almost a full month of vacation, is just around the corner. During this time, students will celebrate important holidays such as Christmas and New Year’s.
One of the most anticipated holiday periods for students is December, as it brings gifts, delicious seasonal food, and traditional celebrations.
The start of the winter break for Quintana Roo residents is near. The official calendar for the 2025-2026 school year, shared by the Quintana Roo Ministry of Public Education (SEQ), follows the guidelines of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).
According to the 185-day calendar for basic education, Monday, December 22nd, will be the official start of the winter break for all preschool, elementary, and middle school students in Quintana Roo.
However, the last day of classes for the year will be December 19th, so the break will begin right after the end of the school year.
When do the winter holidays end?
Just as they have a beginning, the winter holidays also have an end that extends into the following year. Students will return to the classroom on Monday, January 12th, 2026.
Meanwhile, teachers and administrative staff must return on Wednesday, January 7th, to participate in an intensive workshop until Friday, January 9th.
This means that students in Quintana Roo will have additional days off that extend even after the traditional arrival of the Three Kings.
