The 15 projects selected for Mérida Fest 2026 will offer creativity and talent to enrich Mérida’s cultural offerings during the celebrations of its 484th anniversary.
Karla Berrón Cámara, Director of Identity and Culture, noted that the 2026 edition will reach all four corners of the city, as requested by Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada, with more than 90 artistic projects, 203 activities and presentations, and over 900 artists at 83 venues.
Claudia Chapa Cortés, Deputy Director of Culture, highlighted that the 15 projects selected for Mérida Fest 2026 include three international productions, eight national productions, and four promotional works, the latter featuring pieces that have already premiered throughout the year.
The projects encompass all artistic disciplines and demonstrate diversity, both in creative content and in the artists behind each work. “There is a lot of talent in Mérida,” he added.
Among the international productions, “Festival Crece: Música para las Infancias” (Festival Grows: Music for Children) will feature a performance by the band Coleboca with the duo 123 Andrés (Grammy Award winner for Best Children’s Music Album).
“There will be two performances, each three hours long, with music, acts, intermissions, storytelling, and much more for children, helping them rediscover the inner child that adults carry within them,” explained Iván Aguilar, director of the Coleboca Band, which will be celebrating its first decade.
The “Orquesta Cubateca-Jazz del Mayab y del Caribe” (Cubateca-Jazz Orchestra of the Mayab and the Caribbean) is a premiere project that excites Cris Alcocer Vazquez, the group’s representative, because of the rich Mayan cultural heritage it will present with several renowned Cuban artists, such as drummer Horacio “El Mejor” Hernández, with his Latin rhythms and jazz.
The third international production selected is “SacBeats: María Moctezuma & Djonni Laser”, a connection between Mesoamerican roots and global beat.
