The Yucatán government has begun the 2025 vehicle registration renewal process, which started at the beginning of the year and concludes on December 31. This process is aimed at vehicle owners whose license plates correspond to previous emissions standards, especially those with 2020 plates, which must be surrendered during the exchange.
What are the requirements?
Authorities reminded the public that the process must be completed through the official platform, where users must upload their documentation before visiting the registration centers.
To register the application online, vehicle owners must upload:
Official identification, proof of address, current insurance policy, and a document proving vehicle ownership. Later, when attending their appointment, they must present the expired license plates and an official identification.
If the process is carried out by a representative, they must bring a notarized power of attorney and identification. Authorities clarified that payment of the fee does not guarantee immediate authorization, as final validation depends on compliance with requirements and document verification by the Secretariat of Public Security.
Re-registration will be mandatory for vehicles with license plates within the officially published ranges for cars, trucks, buses, and trailers. In case of loss of one or both plates, the owner must present the original police report during their appointment.
For those with license plates from another state, foreign plates, plates issued before 2020, or those requiring a change of ownership, the Government indicated that they must regularize their status through the portal pontealdia.yucatan.gob.mx. Vehicles used through digital platforms must complete the process only at the Transportation Department’s office.

Re-registration Discounts
The program includes economic benefits, such as a 75% discount on traffic fines, as well as a 100% reduction in the vehicle ownership tax for 2015 and prior years, including surcharges, and the same percentage on various unpaid registration renewals. In addition, the exchange of license plates issued between January and May 2025 will be free of charge, by appointment at the designated locations.
