The Guadalupe Fair, one of Zacatecas’ most moving and traditional celebrations, expects an economic impact of approximately 70 million pesos and an attendance of 200,000 people in its 2025 edition, according to estimates by the mayor of Guadalupe, José Saldívar Alcalde.
In an interview with La Razón, Pepe Saldívar, as the mayor is known, emphasized that the Guadalupe Fair, which begins this Friday and concludes on December 14, has gained significant importance in recent years, evolving from a regional fair to a statewide event, attracting visitors from other municipalities and states.
The Fact: The 2020 INEGI Population Census counts 211,740 inhabitants in Guadalupe, of which 48.39 percent are men and 51.61 percent are women.
The Fact: The 2020 INEGI Population Census counts 211,740 inhabitants in Guadalupe, of which 48.39 percent are men and 51.61 percent are women. He emphasized that the fair will feature internationally renowned artists and music of all genres and for all tastes.
He also highlighted that Guadalupe was one of the first municipalities in the country, and the first in the state of Zacatecas, to donate land for the implementation of the housing program promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
In addition to donating land for this project, the municipality also ceded land for the construction of the IMSS High Specialty Hospital, the most important healthcare project in Zacatecas in the last 15 years.
When asked about his possible aspiration to compete for the Morena party’s nomination for governor of Zacatecas in 2027, the mayor stated that for now he is focused on working for the municipality of Guadalupe.
How will these two major projects announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum, to be built in the municipality of Guadalupe—the IMSS High Specialty Hospital and the Housing for Well-being Program—benefit us?
This is very interesting for us residents of Guadalupe and for the state in general. First, we were among the first municipalities in the country and the first in the state to donate the necessary land for President Claudia Sheinbaum’s Housing for Well-being Program, which has two components: one being built by Infonavit for those who have access to that benefit, and the other by the National Housing Commission (Conavi) for those who do not.
As for the High Specialty Hospital, it is the most important healthcare project in the state of Zacatecas in the last 15 years; there is no other hospital of this magnitude. It’s an investment of approximately five billion pesos in the construction and equipping of this hospital, with 216 beds and 42 specialties, on a seven-hectare site; that is, 70,000 square meters, which was also donated by the municipality. Like the housing projects for the community, the land had to be suitable, urban, with connectivity and services.
Speaking of the municipalities, yes, Guadalupe has grown tremendously and deserves a proper fair; this is the 46th edition of a fair that began as a regional event. Due to the growth of the municipality of Guadalupe, it has become a statewide celebration, attracting visitors from other municipalities.
We begin this Friday with a performance by Manuel Medrano, an internationally renowned Colombian singer-songwriter. We’ll have a full house at the Jardín Juárez in Guadalupe, on the Santoni stage, because, it must be said, many companies, thanks to the confidence the municipality of Guadalupe has shown in private investment, have also joined in with sponsorships.
The economic impact is approximately 70 million pesos, with a total of 200,000 visitors in Guadalupe and those coming from other states.
No, we are always looking at all sectors, but carefully considering the issue you just mentioned.
Regarding infrastructure projects, what other projects or investments are expected for the municipality in the coming years? Especially with the use of federal funds, which, I understand, recently received an allocation of 30 percent for water projects.
That’s very important. About a year ago, we met with the President of the Republic here in Mexico City. All the mayors were invited, along with the state governors and members of the President’s Cabinet. Various topics were discussed.
