The Government of Jalisco, through the Ministry of Tourism, inaugurated the direct Guadalajara-Calgary (YYC) flight this Sunday, operated by WestJet, expanding the state’s presence in the Canadian market and strengthening its international connectivity.
The route connects, for the first time, the capital of Jalisco directly with Calgary, a city where WestJet has been operating for over 30 years and handles 27 million passengers annually. This connection represents a 5 percent increase in visitor traffic, rising from 785,286 passengers in 2024 to 825,049 in 2025.
Canadian tourism is also projected to increase by 8 percent in 2025, solidifying its position as one of the most important international markets for Jalisco, accounting for 15 percent of the state’s total foreign visitor arrivals.
The inaugural flight landed at Guadalajara International Airport, with state authorities, consular representatives, and airline executives in attendance. At the event, the Secretary of Tourism, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, highlighted the importance of this new connection and the growing relationship with the Canadian market.
The route will operate temporarily until April 12, 2026, with two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Sundays aboard a Boeing 737 with a capacity of 174 passengers. It will operate from the airport managed by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP).
Currently, five airlines connect Jalisco with Canada from Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.
Flair Airlines Ltd. operates flights to Vancouver and Toronto from Guadalajara, and Air Canada operates flights to Toronto.
Air Canada, Flair Airlines Ltd., Sunwing Airlines Inc., Air Transat, and WestJet operate flights to Puerto Vallarta, totaling 16 active routes.
Between December 2024 and September 2025, six new routes to Canada were inaugurated, adding 26,034 arrival seats, equivalent to a 3 percent increase compared to 2024. This brings the total capacity to over 775,000 seats, solidifying Jalisco’s position as a strategic hub for air connectivity with Canada.
The inaugural Calgary-Guadalajara flight was welcomed by Carlos Preciado of the Guadalajara International Airport; Sébastien Moffett, Canadian Consul in Guadalajara; Shannon McCarthy, representative of the Government of Alberta in Mexico; and David de Alba, Commercial Manager of WestJet.
