Mérida will celebrate the 484th anniversary of its founding with a wide-ranging cultural program as part of Mérida Fest 2026, which includes more than 200 artistic activities distributed throughout the city, announced Karla Berrón, head of the Mérida City Council’s Directorate of Culture and Identity.

During the presentation of the program’s progress, Berrón noted that the festival will feature 90 artistic projects, 203 activities and presentations, the participation of more than 900 artists, and 83 venues. This initiative is part of a strategy to decentralize cultural offerings and bring them to different sectors of the municipality, in accordance with the mayor’s directives.

Berrón emphasized that the 2026 edition will boast one of the most extensive visual arts programs ever presented at Mérida Fest, bringing together exhibitions, tours, and displays that reflect the diversity and quality of local and national talent, with the participation of more than 40 gallery owners.

“As part of the activities, guided tours of city galleries will be offered. These tours will be free and led by specialized staff. On Friday, January 16, walking tours will be conducted along the Santiago and Santa Ana axes, while on Saturday, January 17, tours with transportation will be offered along the La Ermita, Centro, and Norte axes. All of these tours will be led by the Mérida Suburbs Collective,” explained [name/title missing].

It was also announced that the group exhibition by artist Mario, a recipient of the Municipal Fund for Creators, currently on display at the City Museum, will continue. The exhibition includes a videomapping installation and will be part of the Mérida Fest activities.

At the same cultural venue, the MACAY collection will be inaugurated and will become part of the City Museum’s permanent collection. The opening is scheduled for January 14 at 8:00 p.m., strengthening Mérida’s museum offerings and cultural heritage.

Municipal authorities invited the public to participate in the Mérida Fest activities, which aim to celebrate the city’s history through art, identity, and community involvement.

The complete schedule of activities can be found on the Mérida City Hall’s official website.
