Daniel Arizmendi López, alias “El Mochaorejas” (The Ear Chopper), was acquitted in one of the criminal cases against him after Judge Raquel Ivette Duarte Cedillo, of the Second District Court for Criminal Matters in the State of Mexico, acquitted him of kidnapping charges. The judge ruled that the evidence presented by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) was insufficient to prove his guilt.
The ruling also addressed the charge of organized crime, and the judge determined that there was sufficient evidence to establish the formation of a criminal group comprised of more than three people for the purpose of carrying out kidnappings. For this, the judge imposed an eight-year prison sentence.
However, at the time of the acquittal, “El Mochaorejas” had already served 25 years in prison. Therefore, the judge declared the sentence served, meaning that the sentence had already been completed.
Will Daniel Arizmendi, “The Ear Chopper,” be released?
Although Arizmendi received a favorable ruling, he will not be released, as he faces other sentences totaling 250 years in prison. Therefore, he will remain incarcerated at the Federal Penitentiary in Durango.
The Attorney General’s Office has filed an appeal against the federal judge’s ruling. This means the decision could be overturned, and Daniel Arizmendi’s legal status could indeed change with respect to the aforementioned acquittal.
It is important to remember that Daniel Arizmendi was known as one of the most bloodthirsty kidnappers in Mexico. The now-imprisoned man used mutilation techniques on his victims as a method to pressure and extort large sums of money from their families.
