Approximately 32 million pesos have been collected in fines levied against unlicensed taxis in the state, resulting from the impounding of 400 vehicles operating as illegal passenger transport services, reported Gerardo Cuanalo Santos, head of the agency.

“These are for services that are not part of a platform, that lack a concession, and that do not have any type of permit,” he stated.

Cuanalo Santos explained that the penalties applied to the drivers include a fine of 80,000 pesos, in addition to the impoundment of the vehicle and its storage in a tow yard.

The Querétaro State Mobility Agency reported that the vehicles were operating illegally and without being registered on regulated platforms. He specified that, to date, only Uber and Didi are authorized to operate in the state.

“I want to be very clear about two platforms that operate regularly: Uber and Didi. This means that the vehicles and drivers providing service through these platforms are legitimate,” he stated.

The state official mentioned that every vehicle offering private taxi service must comply with three legal requirements: the vehicle must meet the necessary physical and mechanical specifications to provide the service; the driver must be properly trained and capable of performing the service; and finally, the vehicle must have the required permits and comprehensive insurance coverage to cover damages in case of accidents.

He noted that these operations and arrests are being carried out throughout the state to guarantee the services and the safety of the public. Cuanalo Santos urged citizens to prioritize their safety and use only ride-hailing services validated in the state.

“I urge users not to use this platform because they are putting their safety at risk,” stated the head of AMEQ, who clarified that the sanctions are not directed at the users, but at those who provide the service without complying with the legal conditions established by state regulations.
