Excessive noise in neighborhoods of Nuevo León has become one of the main reasons for citizen complaints, especially during the holiday season, when gatherings and celebrations increase.
In response, some municipalities have reinforced operations and established economic and administrative sanctions for those who exceed permitted noise levels.
In the municipality of Guadalupe, authorities set limits of 50 decibels at night and 55 decibels during the day. When these regulations are violated, penalties can reach up to 6,700 pesos, in addition to administrative arrest of up to 36 hours or community service, depending on the severity and recurrence of the case.
The Municipal Public Security Secretariat reported that it maintains constant surveillance, primarily with officers on motorcycles, and urged citizens to avoid false reports that could delay the response to real emergencies.
For its part, Escobedo operates under a different model, as it does not issue immediate fines. In this municipality, the permitted noise level is 65 decibels at night and 68 decibels during the day. When a violation is detected, a summons is issued requiring the responsible party to appear before a civic judge, who determines the corresponding penalty.
Fines can range from 25 to 200 UMA (Unit of Measurement and Update), equivalent to amounts between 2,688 and 21,504 pesos, in addition to administrative arrest, community service, or mandatory awareness workshops. If the fine is not paid, the amount may be added to the property tax.
Escobedo authorities indicated that operations against noisy neighbors are intensified on weekend nights, and in situations where the volume is close to the permitted limit, preventive warnings are issued before applying sanctions.
To report noisy neighbors in Nuevo León, citizens can call 911. In Guadalupe, it is recommended to use the official channels of the Public Security Secretariat, while in Escobedo, reports are received at (81) 8286 9200 or through the chatbot “Proxy” at (81) 2075 3684.
