The Coahuila Public Security Secretariat reported that three State Police officers have been suspended from duty following their alleged involvement in acts of corruption after being caught on video extorting a motorist from the United States.
The incident occurred at a security checkpoint on the Saltillo-Monterrey highway in the municipality of Ramos Arizpe, and was subsequently shared on social media.
A white truck with a collision and people standing outside the vehicle can be seen in the video.
The agency condemned the events that took place on November 30, in which a Mexican national was affected, and stated that upon learning of the situation, the officers involved were immediately suspended and an investigation was launched.
“I want to reiterate that there is zero tolerance for any act of corruption or practices that fall outside established police protocols. I am referring to the incident that occurred in the southeastern region where some officers were allegedly engaging in improper practices,” stated Federico Fernández, Attorney General of the State of Coahuila. A beige and green building is visible, along with several people walking.
He also reiterated his zero-tolerance policy toward any criminal conduct or attempted criminal activity in the state, emphasizing that the severity is even greater when it involves security personnel, as these types of actions damage the image of law enforcement agencies.
“There will be zero tolerance here, and we’ve been saying this for months. It’s an agreement between the state council and the Attorney General’s Office. We will be intolerant of these practices, and we ask drivers to send us any videos of them,” stated Federico Fernández Montañez.
Finally, the Secretariat reaffirmed the agreement established on December 16 during the State Public Security Council meeting, which made it clear that no one is above the law.
