The recent capture of Nicolás Maduro in Caracas, carried out during a U.S. military operation, has resonated strongly within the Venezuelan community residing in Mexico. Representatives of the group “Command with Venezuela” in Mexico City (CDMX), aligned with opposition leaders Edmundo González and María Corina Machado, have expressed their confidence in the U.S. intervention.
“Today justice has been served, and we are beginning a process in which the freedom that Venezuela sought through the ballot box is being consolidated,” said Edson Martínez, spokesperson for Command with Venezuela in Mexico.
Although Donald Trump has expressed some distrust regarding the ability of these leaders to assume control of the country, the representatives in Mexico are urging their compatriots to remain calm and trust that this marks a new stage toward freedom.
“One day at a time, today the Venezuelan people are celebrating in the streets of downtown Venezuela, and that is the policy and the desire of an entire population that has truly been murdered. Because the medicines for cancer patients were stolen, because the hospitals fell into disrepair, because the security of Venezuelans was nonexistent, and today what Venezuela wants is to recover the freedom and progress it once had, something that had been lost for more than 25 years.”
Edson Martínez, representative of “Command with Venezuela” in Mexico, said that the return of democracy is imminent for his country.
“We are recovering, once again, the constitutional and democratic order. Long live a free Venezuela!”
For now, there will be demonstrations in more than 17 cities across Mexico, including Mexico City, where a rally will be held tomorrow, January 4th, at Lincoln Park at 11:00 a.m.
