Two elderly American tourists were rescued in an emergency while at sea off the coast of Baja California Sur after experiencing health complications.

The Mexican Navy’s Coast Guard in this region confirmed that it deployed two separate rescue operations. The first rescue occurred after receiving a report from the La Paz Regional Port Authority that a 73-year-old American man was experiencing chest pain and general malaise.

A Defender-class vessel was deployed to the area near La Paz Bay with naval personnel, where they located the man and three companions aboard a boat and brought them to the dock. An ambulance then transported him to a hospital for medical attention.

Another rescue unit arrived and evacuated the patient, a civilian doctor, and two other companions who were on board the vessel. All were taken to the dock and a hospital for evaluation.

During this winter holiday season, authorities in Baja California Sur reported that they are reinforcing rescue and emergency response operations with additional personnel and units, in coordination with all relevant agencies.
