In 2013, Claudia Sheinbaum was shouting in the Zócalo alongside AMLO, defending Mexican oil. “They shouldn’t dare give Mexico’s oil and wealth to other countries! The homeland is not for sale!” she yelled, while threatening to organize a patriotic women’s strike.
⏰ Three Doritos later…
This January 12, 2026, during the morning press conference, she was asked about the massive oil shipments to Cuba. Her response was legendary:
🗣️ “The people of Mexico aren’t too worried, no, because there’s enough oil, there’s gasoline, there’s diesel.”
The numbers Sheinbaum downplays:
- 86,000 barrels arrived in Cuba this weekend on the Ocean Mariner
- Mexico is now Cuba’s main oil supplier, surpassing Venezuela
- Pemex reported to the SEC that it will supply 17,200 barrels per day to the island by 2025.
When asked to make contracts, prices, and percentages transparent, the president said that “the information exists” but did not disclose it. Pemex claims that the operation is “private” and it is not obligated to provide accountability.
The same person who 12 years ago swore to defend oil from “foreign hands” now says that Mexicans don’t care if it’s given away to a dictatorship in crisis.
🇨🇺 Cuba faces blackouts of 20+ hours a day. And Mexican oil keeps arriving while Sheinbaum decides what information “worries” the people.
