The Diocese of San Cristóbal de Las Casas has invited parishioners, social organizations, and people of goodwill to participate in a commemorative pilgrimage for the anniversary of the death of Bishop Emeritus Samuel Ruiz García. The pilgrimage will take place next Sunday, January 25, and will follow a route through various streets of the city.

In a statement, the Diocese and the faithful announced that the procession will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will have two starting points, located in the eastern and western parts of the city. They extended the invitation to communities and parishioners from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Tapachula, and other regions of the state.

The Diocese of San Cristóbal, led by Bishop Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez, stated that this pilgrimage aims to commemorate the life, pastoral legacy, and struggle for social justice of Don Samuel Ruiz, an emblematic figure of the Church in Chiapas and a defender of indigenous peoples.

“Let us walk in prayer and hope, raising our voices for life, justice, and peace with dignity,” reads the call to action issued by the People of Faith, addressed to communities, parishes, organizations, and volunteers.

According to the information provided, the meeting point in the eastern part of the state will be on the highway leading to Teopisca, at the San Pablo intersection. While in the western part of the city, the procession will take place on the San Cristóbal–Tuxtla Gutiérrez free federal highway, near the entrance to CBTIS 92.

The pilgrimage will conclude with a Eucharistic celebration at 11:00 a.m., next to the San Cristóbal Cathedral, presided over by Bishop Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez. Church authorities asked attendees to coordinate beforehand with their parish or pastoral zone staff.
