Following the landing of an aircraft at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) on Thursday afternoon, January 22, it was reported that another military plane had been flying over Mexico, allegedly for surveillance purposes.

Social media users reported that a U.S. military aircraft was flying over Mexican territory, specifically in the south of the country.

This U.S. military aircraft, registration number BLKCAT5, was identified as an MQ-4C Triton surveillance drone, although the reason for its overflight in Mexico is unknown.

Information indicates that this type of aircraft is used by the United States for reconnaissance and monitoring missions, but it is an unmanned aircraft.

The military plane reportedly flew over the Yucatán Peninsula and part of the state of Campeche; Mexican authorities have not issued any statement on the matter.

It is worth noting that in addition to today’s landing at AICM, a U.S. military aircraft landed at Toluca International Airport (AIT) on Saturday, January 17.
