Isla Mujeres receives Queer Destinations inclusive certification

Isla Mujeres was awarded the Queer Destinations certification for its commitment to inclusion, diversity, and respect for human rights.

The award was presented during the 2026 International Tourism Fair (FITUR), held in Madrid, Spain, within the Mexican Caribbean Pavilion, the Municipal Government reported.

This accreditation positions the destination as one of the first municipalities in the country to obtain this international distinction, which aims to guarantee best practices in serving LGBTQ+ tourists.

The plaque was received on behalf of the municipality during FITUR 2026, one of the most important tourism events worldwide.

The Queer Destinations certification evaluates public policies, training, dignified treatment, and safe environments for LGBTQ+ visitors, allowing Isla Mujeres to be projected as an open, reliable, and competitive destination.

The certification recognizes Isla Mujeres as a place committed to inclusion and respect, values ​​that strengthen its positioning strategy in the international tourism market.

According to municipal authorities, today’s tourism demands destinations that promote equality and dignified treatment for all people, without discrimination.

Furthermore, this recognition helps diversify the tourism offerings and attract new segments of travelers, consolidating a modern and responsible image of the destination.
