San Luis Potosí is safer than Guadalajara

According to the updated National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU) by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the city of San Luis Potosí registered an increase in the perception of safety, surpassing cities like Guadalajara (79.2%) and other cities in the region, such as Guanajuato (68.7%).

Based on this, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the State (SSPC), Jesús Juárez Hernández, emphasized that these figures are the result of a comprehensive strategy based on prevention, operational presence, and strengthened intelligence efforts.

Nationally, in December 2025, 63.8% of the population aged 18 and over, residing in 91 urban areas of interest, considered it unsafe to live in their city.

This does not represent a statistically significant change compared to the percentage recorded in September 2025, but it does represent a statistically significant change compared to December 2024 (61.7%).

Furthermore, based on the percentage of the population that considers it unsafe to live in their city, the ENSU data allows us to identify the cities with the lowest perception of insecurity; that is, those where the majority of people feel safe in their urban environment:

Thus, the city of San Luis Potosí registered a decrease in terms of to the percentage of people who do not feel safe in their everyday urban environment due to crimes such as assaults or robberies.

In this regard, the capital of San Luis Potosí saw an increase from 71.9% in December 2024 to 64% in December 2025, meaning that 7.9% more people believe that security has improved in San Luis Potosí in the last year.

The head of the State Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) emphasized that preventative actions have been key to this progress in security in San Luis Potosí, through permanent patrols, targeted operations, and community outreach programs that allow for direct contact with the population.

He also indicated that these measures not only deter crime but also strengthen the bond between security institutions and the community.

He specified that 2025 is the year with the lowest recorded number of homicides, with a 71.89% decrease compared to 2021, which saw the highest number of homicides recorded in the last eight years.

Meanwhile, in 2025, 9,419 arrests were made for drug possession, 209 arrests for possession of stolen vehicles, and robberies of businesses also reached their lowest figure in the last eight years.

Finally, the state security secretary emphasized that the commitment for 2026 is to maintain and strengthen these strategies, prioritizing prevention and inter-institutional cooperation, with the goal of consolidating the decrease in the perception of insecurity and moving toward lasting social peace for the people of San Luis Potosí.
