During the last days of January and the beginning of February, Guadalajara will experience one of the most intense cultural moments of the year with the arrival of ART WKND GDL 2026, a platform that brings together contemporary art, design, and architecture at various locations throughout the city.
The project, carried out in collaboration with the Jalisco Ministry of Tourism and the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area Tourism Trust, emerged as an extension of Art Weekend, an initiative born in Mexico City that seeks to decentralize the national art scene and expand its reach to other creative hubs in the country.
More than just a single event, ART WKND GDL functions as a circuit of simultaneous activities taking place in galleries, museums, artists’ studios, and independent spaces.
ART WKND GDL will be held from Thursday, January 29, to Sunday, February 1, 2026, with activities distributed across different locations in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area.
The Zapopan Art Museum (MAZ) will inaugurate the exhibition “The Staircase That Made the House Fall,” by artist Alejandra Laviada, while EstaciónMAZ will host the project “Listones,” by French designer Fabien Cappello, as part of its program focused on design, fashion, and architecture.
Meanwhile, Plataforma will host diverse offerings across its three levels: the group exhibition “Here, Now,” curated by Sacha Craddock; the exhibition “Form, Deform, Reform, Counter-Reform, Transform” by Cristóbal Gracia, along with a site-specific installation by Luis Felipe Manzano; and a showcase of emerging artists-in-residence Maximiliano Ruelas and María Esteve.
Galleries such as Curro, Tiro al Blanco, Travesía Cuatro, and Guadalajara 90210 will also participate with special exhibitions to be revealed over the weekend. Additionally, Architectural Digest and Vogue will contribute with collaborations and activations alongside guest studios and artists.
The official launch of ART WKND GDL will include a video mapping show on Thursday, January 29th at 8:00 PM in the atrium of the Guadalajara Cathedral, also illuminating emblematic spaces such as the Hospicio Cabañas, the Rotonda de las y los Jaliscienses Ilustres (Rotunda of Illustrious Jaliscians), and the Teatro Degollado (Degollado Theater).
As part of the urban intervention, five sculptural doors will appear in public spaces as a symbol of the connection between the city and artistic creation. These can be found on the Chapultepec pedestrian walkway, at the La Perla shopping center, and at the Arcos de Zapopan (Zapopan Arches), inviting visitors to interact with art from the street.
Throughout the weekend, there will be open activities in museums, galleries, homes, workshops, and independent spaces. Highlights include projects such as “Playing to Play” by Sofía Elías at Casa Orbe, the artist’s first solo show in Guadalajara, and the exhibition “Un cuerpo sin órganos” (A Body Without Organs) at Sala Silenciosa (Silent Room), an intimate proposal for conceptual reflection on the body.
For the complete schedule and event updates, it is recommended to follow the official ART WKND GDL channels, where everything Guadalajara has prepared for this edition will be revealed.
