The Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) announced that Chile will be the Guest of Honor at its 41st edition, to be held from April 17 to 25, reaffirming a long-standing relationship with one of Latin America’s most influential film industries and strengthening cultural and industrial ties between the two countries.
Chile’s presence at FICG dates back to 2003, when it participated with a classic film showcase and a selection of 14 films produced between 1973 and 2001, including five fundamental classics of Chilean cinema.
That program featured works by filmmakers such as Raúl Ruiz, Miguel Littín, Aldo Francia, Ricardo Larraín, Silvio Caiozzi, and Patricio Guzmán, who received a Tribute Award.
Since then, Chilean cinema has maintained a consistent presence at this film festival of the University of Guadalajara (FICG), participating in official competitions, special showcases, and industry programs.
Chile was also the Guest of Honor at the 34th edition of the FICG (2019), at a time of strong international recognition for its film industry.
Chilean participation in the FICG has also been a driving force for internationalization and co-production, with projects developed in collaboration with countries such as Mexico, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, and Germany, which have found in the festival a key space for creative dialogue and industry collaboration.
Chile’s designation as Guest of Honor for the 41st edition of the FICG recognizes and celebrates a shared history and a constantly evolving film industry, consolidating the cultural, creative, and productive ties between Chile, Mexico, and Ibero-American cinema, and reaffirming the Festival’s commitment as a platform for encounter, reflection, and international promotion of the region’s cinema.
