The Executive Branch, through the Ministry of Culture of the State of Morelos, announced that from February 5th to 7th, 2026, Cuernavaca will become a meeting point for experimental music, improvisation, and sound arts with the Cuernavaca International Festival of Free Expression (FILEC), a cultural initiative that seeks to bring contemporary artistic practices closer to the community through listening, dialogue, and collective creation.

The festival will bring together more than 30 artists from 13 countries, who will participate in a program comprised of concerts, performances, site-specific interventions, workshops, and talks. The activities will take place in emblematic venues in the Historic Center, such as the Spencer Mansion, the Ocampo Theater, and the Juan Soriano Morelos Museum of Contemporary Art (MMAC).

For three days, the general public, artists, and students can attend solo and ensemble concerts, collaborative projects, and real-time creative processes, as well as workshops focused on improvisation and deep listening. The proximity of the venues will allow attendees to explore different cultural spaces in a single day, strengthening the connection between the city and contemporary artistic practices.

FILEC has established itself as one of the most important platforms in Latin America for free improvisation and sound art, promoting cultural and international exchange among creators from Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and Mexico, and bringing audiences closer to artistic proposals that unfold outside of traditional formats.

Regarding this, the Secretary of Culture of Morelos, Montserrat Orellana Colmenares, stated: “Festivals like FILEC broaden the cultural horizons of citizens and strengthen dialogue between local and international communities. Experimental music and sound arts are also tools for reflection, encounter, and social transformation, adding the characteristic of taking to the streets and reclaiming public spaces that belong to everyone.”

The Government of Morelos reaffirms its commitment to promoting art and culture as drivers of cultural development, community exchange, and collective well-being, by activating the city’s public and cultural spaces.
