Representatives of the Tour Operators Association in Sonora are seeking to attract a specific segment of retired U.S. citizens to relocate to the state.

This was revealed by Julio Rascó Torres, president of the association, who said that these individuals have already been identified in some areas of Central Mexico, such as Querétaro and Guanajuato.

He specified that there are at least 450 retirees who, due to the economic crisis in the United States, have been traveling frequently to various parts of Mexico. However, they have already made contacts with those seeking to attract them to Sonora.

“These are approximately 450 people, not the so-called ‘snowbirds’ (a term used to describe U.S. citizens who are often considered ‘snowbirds’), but rather another segment of retired Americans who enjoy traveling to Mexico. We have the opportunity to offer them the advantages that Sonora has to offer, so they can come here for vacations or even to settle permanently,” he stated.

In that regard, he added that, as promoters of tourism in Sonora, they aim to attract visitors to the region based on the various real estate options available in different areas of the state, from towns to beaches, with the intention that they will settle here.

Rascón Torres added that many of these visitors are from the neighboring state of Arizona and can travel more easily by plane. Furthermore, due to the current situation in their country, the exchange rate from dollars to pesos is more favorable for them.

“They can travel more easily by plane and potentially stay here, or they can drive to Sonora or return to their families,” he explained.

The representative of the tour operators in Sonora stated that the goal is to offer them every possible travel convenience, given the trust between Arizona and Sonora, regardless of any negative campaigns that may arise.

“The idea is to have a meeting soon between American citizens and real estate agents, so that they can be offered a range of houses that might be attractive to them,” he concluded.
