This year, the ornamental lighting project for the San Antonio Church, one of the most iconic buildings in the Historic Center of Aguascalientes, will be completed, announced Carlos España Martínez, Secretary of Municipal Public Services.
He explained that, under a collaborative agreement, the City Council and the ecclesiastical authority will contribute equal shares. The total cost is around 1.2 million pesos, of which 600,000 will come from the municipality and the other half from the church, which has already secured its contribution. The municipal funds are currently undergoing administrative processing for release and must be spent this year.
The project includes the installation of 110 warm-light fixtures designed for outdoor use. The Public Lighting Department will oversee the work, also supervising the acquisition of materials and the use of specialized machinery, such as cranes and aerial work platforms, due to the building’s height. The lighting will be entirely ornamental and will cover the exterior of the church.
España Martínez noted that the site had been illuminated in previous years and that its renovation aims to enhance a central point in the city, similar to what was done at the Cathedral Basilica and the San Marcos Church, under the same municipal-church partnership model.
He also indicated that there are other requests from churches such as La Merced, El Encino, and the Guadalupe Sanctuary, where changes or improvements to the lighting are needed. In the case of the El Encino Garden, he announced that the lights will be replaced.
The official left open the possibility of supporting other churches that approach the municipality, provided there is a willingness for similar collaboration. He clarified that, although it is not an obligation of the City Council to intervene in these spaces, it maintains a policy of support through equipment, labor, and logistical assistance, without neglecting the general services of the city.
