After several years, the Aguascalientes Traditional Costume Contest is back. Thanks to the initiative of the State Government, this historic project is being revived with its relaunch during the 2026 San Marcos National Fair (FNSM).
At a press conference, the State Secretary of Tourism, Mauricio González López, and Alma Gabriela Gutiérrez Galván, president of the FNSM Queens and Princesses Association, emphasized that this contest seeks to rescue, preserve, and project the cultural identity of Aguascalientes through design and creativity.
“Every embroidery, every drawn thread work, and every artisanal technique tells a story. This contest is an opportunity for local talent to represent Aguascalientes in the most important cultural showcase in the country, demonstrating that our identity is alive and evolving,” said González López.
For her part, Alma Gabriela Gutiérrez Galván explained that the competition is open to designers, students, artisans, and the general public, who can participate with traditional or stylized costumes, incorporating cultural, symbolic, and artisanal elements of the state, with a contemporary design vision.
She said that prizes of 30,000, 20,000, and 10,000 pesos will be awarded to the first three places and specified that the grand finale will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Víctor Sandoval House of Culture, as part of the 198th edition of the San Marcos National Fair.
She added that the competition closes on February 20, and those interested can consult the rules and register online at: https://reinasyprincesasferiadesanmarcos.com.mx/concursodeltrajetipico2026.
