The second desalination plant in Cabo San Lucas, which has been under construction since 2023 in order to increase the volume of water to the citizens of Los Cabos, is 60 percent complete until the last supervision carried out by the municipal authorities in November 2025.
This work, which was supposed to be completed, as explained by the governor of Baja California Sur, at the end of the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has had a slow construction process, and although its first operations were to be operated at the end of 2026, this intention was not achieved.
The general director of Oomsapas, Ramón Rubio Apodaca, explained that the desalination plant that aims to generate 250 liters per second, would begin work until 2027.

“At this time, desalination plant number 2 closed its cash cut on the last day of November, which was the report we had. It is worth mentioning that in December there was no major impact, it exceeds 60 percent of progress but another important issue is that in this committee we have already delivered documents in which the SICT gave the go-ahead for some road crossings, which is the transpeninsular in Cabo San Lucas.”
The director explained that these road crossings will help to finish the lines of the aqueducts, and continue with the process.

“The LB2 tanks, the delivery tank 1, are already built. They also showed us some strategies for how they are going to install pumping equipment and everything else, but those crossings were a relevant issue. With the State Government, the approval has already been given, so in the next few days, they will work. They estimate that it will not take more than 1 month to finish those road crossings.”
