Vicente Fox Quesada, politician and former president of Mexico, relaunched the movement formerly known as “Vértice,” now called “Alma de México” (Soul of Mexico), a citizen initiative that aims to strengthen public participation in the political and social spheres. The proposal seeks to empower citizens to assume an active and responsible role in governing the country, complementing the role of traditional political parties.

Fox emphasized the importance of an organized citizenry in achieving significant changes in the nation through the consolidation of citizen and social efforts that generate a broad and coordinated impact.

The movement originated in late November 2025 under the name “Vértice” and was presented as an opposition alternative in the lead-up to the 2030 elections. After a few months of operation, the project changed its name to “Alma de México” to reflect a broader, more citizen-centered vision.

Fox emphasized that the movement does not aspire to become a political party, but rather to consolidate the active participation of the population and civil society organizations, with the goal of uniting currently dispersed efforts and generating a significant national impact.

According to Vicente Fox, Alma de México aims to bring together civil society organizations and citizens in a coordinated effort that transcends isolated micro-actions.

The project seeks to consolidate citizens as key actors in building the nation, promoting values such as justice, freedom, and a market economy, with a vision projected toward 2030 and a presence in all 32 states of the country. The central objective is to activate a citizen network that drives positive decisions and changes at the national level.

Fox highlighted that the initiative will have citizen leaders to spearhead its development and ensure genuine participation.

“I was just talking with my senator and former governor about how our party finally agreed that 50 percent of the candidacies should be citizen candidates, but we’re going to be very vigilant to make sure that’s true and that it’s carried out properly,” he stated.

The idea is for responsible and committed citizens to assume an active role in leading the country, balancing the participation of traditional parties with that of committed individuals and organizations.

The former president emphasized that the movement seeks to revitalize civil society, which has been somewhat neglected in recent years.

“Imagine if we could start there, somehow uniting, building a bridge between these civil society organizations, which, by the way, once numbered 60,000 in our country and are now fewer because they’ve been somewhat abandoned,” said Vicente Fox Quesada.

The strategy consists of moving from scattered micro-efforts to a coordinated national movement, with the intention that civil associations and citizens work together to build a more just and organized Mexico.

Fox shared that his vision is long-term, both personally and collectively.

“I have goals for 90 years, I have goals for 100 years; right now I’m at 84, so I still have time to continue working for the benefit of Mexico,” he said.

He concluded by noting that Alma de México seeks to consolidate a connected citizenry, with influence in national decisions and the capacity to transform politics and society, becoming a bridge between citizens and authorities to strengthen democracy and freedoms.
