The fifth edition of the competition concluded with the awards ceremony, following several days of tastings, evaluations, and interaction among producers and enthusiasts.

The event celebrated the creativity, quality, and diversity of craft beer in its various categories, solidifying its position as a meeting place for the beer community.

“I want to thank everyone who was here putting up with my worried face,” said Germán, the competition’s head judge. He also acknowledged the work of the panel of judges, who carried out the evaluations despite the high temperatures. “The good thing is that we had cold drinks to keep us refreshed. I hope we can enjoy each other’s company and have a good time celebrating beer,” he added.

The event included categories reflecting the breadth of participating beer styles, among them:

German Beers
American Red Beers
British Beers
Local Beers with Herbs and Spices
Wood-Aged Beers
Specialty Beers and Sours
Vienna Style Beers
Mexican Lagers
Munich Kellers
Stouts
Belgian Beers
Non-Alcoholic Beers

“Sometimes it’s difficult to group the categories, but we tried to do it as fairly as possible,” Germán noted.

The beers were evaluated professionally and anonymously, considering criteria such as aroma, appearance, flavor, body, and overall impression. According to the head judge, the goal was to ensure a serious and equitable process for all participants.

The ‘Best of Show’ award was given to Lágrimas de Don Arturo, from Cerveza Cardera. Second place went to Noche Épica 2026, from África, while third place was a tie between Propaganda, a Rauchbier, and Cuatro Palos, with its Irresistible label.

“I have nothing but respect for everyone who submitted their beers and trusted in our work,” he stated.

In addition to the top prize, 60 additional medals were awarded: 20 bronze, 20 silver, and 20 gold, distributed among the various competition categories.

During the final day, attendees sampled diverse styles, learned about brewing processes, and shared experiences with producers, strengthening ties within the brewing community.

With this edition, the Copa Desierto de Sonora reaffirmed its commitment to promoting innovation and diversity in craft beer, with the expectation of returning for a future event.
