The mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada, urged citizens and entrepreneurs to prioritize compliance with current regulations before starting any business or undertaking any work in public spaces.
The mayor emphasized that respect for municipal regulations is the foundation for ensuring order and harmonious coexistence in the Yucatecan capital.
Patrón Laviada noted that measures have been implemented to regulate traffic in areas such as Paseo de Montejo and various neighborhoods, where obstacles have hindered free pedestrian movement.
In this regard, she called for avoiding the practice of establishing businesses without prior authorization, stressing that her administration strictly adheres to the law to prevent injustices and ensure that the city remains organized.
The municipal authority reiterated that the city council maintains an open-door policy to advise those who have questions about the viability of their projects.
“In Mérida, you can’t ask for forgiveness before permission,” warns the mayor. She clarified that the intention is not to hinder economic development, but rather to guide the public on what is permitted within the current legal framework to prevent sanctions or the removal of infrastructure.
The mayor reaffirmed her administration’s support for entrepreneurs and the growth of local businesses.
However, she conditioned this support on mutual respect and trust in the authorities, inviting those interested to approach the municipal offices to formalize their procedures and ensure that their activities do not infringe upon the rights of others.
