Lawmakers seek to cap rent increases in Yucatán

In response to rising rental prices in Yucatán, PT Deputy Francisco Rosas Villavicencio introduced a bill to establish a cap on rental costs.

The proposal seeks to amend the State Civil Code and Housing Law so that rent increases are tied to inflation and not left to the discretion of landlords.

The legislator noted that in northern Mérida, rental prices have increased considerably, rising from an average of 8,000 to 10,000 pesos in 2020 to between 12,000 and 18,000 pesos in 2025. The bill has been submitted to the State Congress for review.
