This Saturday, for the second consecutive day, residents of the town of Crescencio Morales, in the municipality of Zitácuaro, maintained a blockade on the Zitácuaro-Toluca highway.
The blockade is located near the La Dieta plant nursery in the community, preventing motorists from passing since last Friday and causing traffic disruptions.
The residents of Crescencio Morales are demanding a meeting with representatives of the Michoacán Electoral Institute (IEM) and the Michoacán State Government Secretariat.
In response to this protest, the Zitácuaro city council called on the demonstrators to conduct themselves respectfully and not infringe upon the right of others to free transit on the highways that cross through the municipality.
“We urge the use of the dialogue channels offered by the State Government to address the demands through institutional means. We respect the autonomy of the self-governing community of Crescencio Morales,” the municipal authority stated on social media.
They also clarified that these protest actions are exclusively those of the self-governing community and have no connection to the municipal administration.
