Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas – The efforts made and the diligent work have resulted in favorable indicators in health and tourism, allowing Tamaulipas to stand out nationally, in addition to raising the quality of life and well-being of families in all 43 municipalities, Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya stated during his weekly press conference.
In the area of health, he said, the state has managed to recover from its collapse and move toward a universal and free healthcare system, as established by Article 4 of the Constitution, which recognizes the human right to health. He also noted significant progress, such as the historic investment of 4.3 billion pesos in hospital infrastructure, a 25 percentage point reduction in in-hospital deaths from acute myocardial infarction, a 100% guaranteed supply of cancer medications, a 76% decrease in dengue cases, and the fact that, to date, Tamaulipas is the only state without any cases of measles this year.
It was also emphasized that Tamaulipas is the only state with a dedicated Directorate of Healthy Lifestyle Medicine within its structure, and is a national leader in implementing the Ibreast Exam, a device for detecting breast cancer.
Regarding the federalization of health services to IMSS Bienestar, Dr. Gabriel De la Garza Garza, Director General of Health and Population Welfare Policies, explained that to date, 367 medical units and 3,568 workers have been transferred. He added that 915 workers have been given permanent positions and 1,121 have been hired, meaning that 2,026 healthcare professionals now have improved working conditions.
For his part, the head of the State Commission for the Prevention of Sanitary Risks (COEPRIS), Mario Rebolledo Urcádiz, explained that there are currently 57 addiction treatment and rehabilitation centers operating, and that work is underway to regulate them through a commission of 11 government institutions. He also mentioned that his agency has conducted 300 beach samplings, “and all the beaches in Tamaulipas are in suitable condition for use.”
At the press conference, the Secretary of Tourism, Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, highlighted that in the last three years, Tamaulipas has consolidated its position as a leading tourist destination nationally, reaching a record influx of 17.4 million visitors in 2025; 3.2 million more than in 2024, which generated an economic impact of more than 16 billion pesos, a 24 percent increase over the previous year.
He added that the tourism sector employed 150,695 people in 2025, generating 30,425 additional jobs compared to 2024, placing Tamaulipas first in the nation.
Hernández Rodríguez referred to the distinctions and recognition received by Tamaulipas at the national and international levels and mentioned the sports tourism and meetings tourism events.
He also emphasized the upcoming Tianguis Nacional de Pueblos Mágicos (National Magical Towns Fair), the second most important event organized by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Tourism. The event, to be held in Tampico in November, was secured thanks to the efforts of Governor Américo Villarreal and will feature 177 Magical Towns and 2,500 exhibitors, with an expected attendance of over 7,000 visitors.
