Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM) laid the first stone for the modernization project at the San Luis Río Colorado Customs Office in Sonora, a strategic project aimed at strengthening binational trade and improving security conditions on the country’s northern border.

The ceremony was led by Rafael Fernando Marín Mollinedo, head of ANAM, who emphasized that this infrastructure will optimize the flow of people and vehicles between Mexico and the United States at one of the busiest border crossings in the region.

The project involves an investment of approximately 400 million pesos and seeks to expedite the annual crossing of approximately 2.5 million pedestrians and 3.5 million vehicles, representing a significant advance in logistical efficiency and border connectivity.

Among the planned improvements is the expansion of the crossing’s operational capacity. The project will double the number of vehicle inspection lanes, increasing them from four to eight, which is expected to reduce wait times and strengthen inspection processes.

Also participating in the event were Alfonso Durazo Montaño, Governor of Sonora; César Iván Sandoval Gámez, Mayor of San Luis Río Colorado; as well as federal and state authorities and representatives from the business sector interested in the development of border infrastructure.

The modernization of this customs facility is part of the efforts aimed at strengthening the strategic infrastructure of Mexican foreign trade, in a context where the northern border plays a key role in the economic integration of North America.
