Car prices have risen sharply in recent years, and there are fewer and fewer affordable options. In fact, data shows that in 2024 the average cost of new cars reached 516,000 pesos. However, there are still some “cheap” options, and this is the cheapest car you can buy at a dealership in 2026.
Historically, Nissan is known for offering affordable vehicles, and thanks to the arrival of new models, several of its models have seen price reductions in the last year. In fact, the Nissan March was recently announced with a base price of $216,000 Mexican pesos.
However, we’re talking about the 2025 model year, and this is a special clearance price, as the hatchback will be discontinued, making room for the Nissan Magnite, which is beginning to establish itself as one of the brand’s most successful models.
However, the Nissan March isn’t the cheapest car you can buy from a dealership in 2026; that title belongs to the 2026 Renault Kwid, which has a starting price of $208,000 pesos.
Although the list price starts at $251,500 pesos, the Renault brand announced that the Intens TM version has a special price of 208,000 pesos. However, this promotion only applies when purchased through the in-house financing company, which doesn’t charge an opening fee but has an average Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 17.7% excluding VAT.
The 2026 Renault Kwid uses a 1.0L naturally aspirated 3-cylinder engine that delivers 66 horsepower and 69 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. It features 4 airbags, automatic door locks, stability control, and hill start assist.
In terms of comfort, being the entry-level version, it offers 14” steel wheels, LED daytime running lights, air conditioning, an audio system with auxiliary input and Bluetooth, an audio system with 4 speakers, electric front windows, and USB-C and USB-A inputs.
