During her visit to the Senate at the invitation of Morena legislator Emmanuel Reyes Carmona, the mayor of Uruapan, Gracia Quiroz, confirmed that she is considering running for governor of Michoacán in 2027.

The mayor emphasized that, although it is not election season, her political future is being analyzed within her movement.

“We are evaluating the situation with the movement; it is not election season, not by a long shot. There are many who are already desperate to participate, but we must leave that decision to the people,” she said.
Quiroz left open the possibility of running as an independent, indicating that, if she were to do so, it would be “under the independent hat movement.”

Quiroz highlights the support she has received from the federal government.

In an interview with the media, the mayor emphasized the institutional support received from the federal government, which, she said, has been key given the context of violence in the region.

“There has been support for the municipality of Uruapan, there has been support for me personally; they sent security, there is a presence of the Army and the National Guard. I appreciate this support because the reality is that the municipality needs it,” she stated.

On another note, Grecia Quiroz reiterated her demand that the Prosecutor’s Office not rule out a political angle in the investigation of her husband Carlos Manzo’s murder, mentioning that there is precedent pointing to political figures. Without making direct accusations, she maintained that this is a line of inquiry that must be considered.

“I would never dare to make a definitive statement or confirm anything; however, it is a line of inquiry that I have asked not to be disregarded,” she said.

The mayor of Uruapan was invited to participate in the “100 Women Leaders” event held at the Senate of the Republic.
