During Holy Week, the city of Orizaba is preparing for the sixth annual Stations of the Cross by Bicycle, an event that blends Catholic tradition with cycling and has become one of the most representative in the region over the years.

According to the organizing civil association, “BiciOri Paz y Bien,” the event will take place on Friday, April 3rd, with an expected participation of over 2,000 cyclists, reflecting its steady growth since its first edition in 2020.

The meeting point will be the Rectory of San Antonio de Padua at 11:00 a.m., from where the group will depart shortly before noon. The route will cover between 25 and 28 kilometers and is estimated to last approximately three hours.

As part of the event, the 14 Stations of the Cross will be reenacted, following Catholic tradition. Each station will be represented by a cross carried on a tricycle, accompanied by cyclists who will ensure the safety of the route. The route will conclude at the Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel, where Bishop Eduardo Cervantes Merino will offer the final blessing.

During the ride, participants will be accompanied by a priest and a choir who will guide them through the stations, reinforcing the spiritual nature of the event, which also promotes family togetherness and physical activity.

In terms of logistics, the organizers reported that four hydration stations will be set up, in addition to having medical services and an ambulance on hand, with the aim of ensuring the safety of the attendees.

However, participants are advised to bring bicycles in good working order, wear safety equipment, and carry water and protection against the weather.

The president of the group, Delfino Ramírez Encarnación, emphasized that this activity has transcended the local area, registering the participation of people from other municipalities and even from different states of the country.

Finally, the invitation to the public to join this event was reiterated, which seeks to strengthen spirituality, sport and community life during Good Friday.
