Mazatlán businessman Rafael Tirado Lizárraga was found dead on the eve of Holy Week in Mazatlán, the most important tourist destination in Sinaloa, after being missing for two days.

Lizarraga Tirado owned the “Alicia” fruit stands and was abducted outside the “La Yarda” wholesale market in the port city of Mazatlán, very early in the morning before the start of his workday on Friday, March 27.

In response, the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra) in Mazatlán issued a statement condemning the businessman’s murder.

“Security is a fundamental pillar for economic and social development. Without it, not only is the safety of individuals compromised, but also the stability of our communities,” the statement read in part.

The body of Tirado Lizárraga, 65, was found abandoned in the Venadillo neighborhood, and according to local media reports, he had gunshot wounds.
