Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) stated that the gas flaring at the Agave Separation Battery in Tabasco is a temporary measure resulting from operational conditions, and affirmed that it will be permanently eliminated by mid-2026.
The company explained that regular gas flaring at this facility, located near communities in the municipalities of Centro, Jalapa, and Teapa, was suspended in December 2025.
However, it detailed that a problem was subsequently detected in the pipeline connecting the battery to the Nuevo Pemex Gas Processing Complex, caused by gas condensation due to temperature changes, which has necessitated periodic controlled flaring.
As part of the solution, the oil company stated that a re-engineering process of the infrastructure has begun, which includes cleaning the pipeline using specialized devices to remove liquid accumulations. These operations involve conducting controlled flaring approximately every 20 days.
He also said that once the work is completed, the gas will be channeled entirely to the Processing Complex, which will definitively eliminate these practices.
The company stated that it has held meetings with local residents and authorities to agree on the days and times for these flares, in order to reduce disturbances and ensure safety.
Finally, he affirmed that he is keeping state and municipal authorities, as well as the public, informed about the progress of the implemented actions.
