Human rights groups and organizations denounced a systematic pattern of torture, fabricated charges, and institutional violence in Chiapas, citing the case of Óscar Trinidad Carbajal, a merchant detained by state security forces.
According to the statement, Óscar Trinidad was arbitrarily detained by the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force, who allegedly demanded money from him in exchange for allowing him to work. After he refused, he was detained again, taken to the prosecutor’s office, and subjected to torture, including beatings, suffocation, and threats, which resulted in a critical health condition requiring hospitalization.
Despite a public prosecutor ordering his release, authorities brought new charges against him for drug dealing, keeping him in pretrial detention. Organizations denounced that torture, incommunicado detention, and medical negligence persisted throughout this process, constituting a pattern of serious human rights violations.
The groups demanded the immediate release of Óscar Trinidad Carbajal, adequate medical attention, the dismissal of fabricated charges, and an independent investigation against those responsible, and warned that impunity in these cases reinforces a climate of fear and repression in the state.
