Proposal to penalize false paternity attribution in Mexico

37

Congressman Ernesto Núñez Aguilar proposed penalizing the false attribution of paternity, that is, when a man is led to believe he is the father of a child when he is not biologically the father. The proposal includes penalties such as imprisonment, fines, and possible restitution, including child support expenses.

For now, the bill must undergo analysis and debate before any approval. As context, a study in England was cited suggesting that approximately 1 in 50 men may be in this situation, although this figure is not specific to Mexico.
