The “Chiapas Birding and Photo Festival 2026” was officially launched. Organized by the Chiapas State Tourism Secretariat, the festival aims to solidify the state’s position as an international leader in birdwatching and nature photography tourism.
This festival is part of a state strategy to diversify tourism offerings and promote low-impact activities that contribute to conservation awareness.
It will take place from April 15 to 18, 2026, and includes a series of tours, workshops, and photo sessions in various ecosystems throughout the state.
At a press conference, it was announced that Chiapas boasts approximately 694 bird species recorded within its borders, out of a total of 1,115 found in Mexico, making it a prime location for wildlife observation and photography.
The head of the State Tourism Secretariat, Segundo Guillén Gordillo, emphasized that this seventh edition of the festival represents a commitment to a new concept of travel, going beyond simply contemplating the landscape, seeking to generate a profound connection between visitors and the region’s natural wealth.
The event also aims to involve local communities, tourism service providers, community guides, and professional photographers, fostering economic development with respect for the environment.
Benefits
The initiative aims to improve the living conditions of communities surrounding protected natural areas through social participation and the responsible management of resources.
The goal is for each visit to leave as its only lasting impression the wonder of a tourist witnessing the biodiversity of Chiapas.
With this festival, the Tourism Secretariat opened Chiapas to the world, showcasing its natural treasures, with an eye toward future editions that will continue to position the state as a leading nature tourism destination.
