This happened in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. A group of 15 urban artists, led by Mick Martínez and “Chuchito Psy,” painted a mural on a wall depicting the face of the Morena party mayor, Cruz Pérez Cuéllar. They added pig ears and a nose, and mouse teeth. Urban art, political satire—what people think of their leader, all on a wall.
🚔 The mayor’s response? He sent the police. Officers from the Southern District arrived, handcuffed the 15 artists—11 men and 4 women—took them to the holding cells at the Bavícora station, and painted the entire wall black. They erased the artwork as if it had never existed. The official pretext: “unauthorized graffiti” and “consuming alcoholic beverages in public.”
Pérez Cuéllar justified it this way: “I can take a beating, but freedom of expression has limits, and one of those limits is respect for human dignity.” He released them hours later only because social media exploded. The PAN party denounced it as censorship, and public pressure forced their release, not the mayor’s “goodwill.”
The mayor of Chihuahua, Marco Bonilla, made it clear: “Freedom of expression must be respected. It’s the first condition for being a good leader.” The state president of the PAN party was more direct: “It reflects Morena’s tendency to persecute critics.” This isn’t an isolated case. Campeche, Guerrero, Puebla, Sinaloa: the pattern repeats itself wherever Morena governs.
🎨 A politician who orders the arrest of artists for painting him as a pig has already told you everything you need to know about him. He wasn’t bothered by the mural itself. He was bothered by its accuracy.
