A clash between residents of the communities of Tziscao and La Cañada, located in the municipality of La Trinitaria, left one person dead on Saturday, according to residents.

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) stated that “an inter-institutional group is already at the scene of the confrontation between civilians; however, order has been restored.”

The FGE added that it has opened an investigation into the homicide of a male victim, and noted that “the corresponding investigations are underway to identify those responsible and clarify the facts.”

Residents of La Cañada reported the presence of armed men with machetes and wearing ski masks on the edge of their property in the morning.

They added that the men later entered the property and murdered a man, whose identity has not yet been released by authorities.

The two communities are located within Montebello Lake National Park, on the border with Guatemala, prompting the Secretary of Tourism, Segundo Guillén, to make “a respectful yet firm call for unity.”

He added that “this territory, which is one of the greatest natural beauties of Chiapas and Mexico, belongs not to division, but to collaboration.”

He emphasized: “From the Ministry of Tourism, we reiterate our willingness to support, mediate, and facilitate the necessary agreements that will allow us to move toward a model where everyone has a place.”

Los pobladores de La Cañada denunciaron por la mañana la presencia de hombres armados con machetes y cubiertos del rostro con pasamontañas en los límites de sus terrenos.
