The management of the Chichén Itzá archaeological site confirmed a temporary restriction on backpacks as part of enhanced security measures.

The site’s director, archaeologist Guadalupe Espinosa Rodríguez, reported that the restriction will be in effect only on Tuesday, the 22nd, and Wednesday of this week, and is a response to recent incidents at another archaeological site in the country, specifically Teotihuacán.

Espinosa Rodríguez explained that the site maintains ongoing access control and review protocols, which include inspections of backpacks, bags, and other items that visitors attempt to bring in, with the goal of preventing unauthorized items from entering.

These actions are carried out in coordination with the National Guard, which has allowed for the detection and confiscation of objects that could pose a risk, as part of the security plan implemented at one of the most visited tourist destinations in the country.

The director emphasized that this measure is strictly temporary and does not imply a change in the usual access rules, while assuring that the operation of the site remains normal thanks to trained staff and established security protocols.
