He shot him as he arrived home; neighbors demand jail time—
Tzompantepec, Tlaxcala—Violence has reached the halls of power. Ronaldo N., community president of San Andrés Ahuashuatepec, Tlaxcala, has been identified as the alleged perpetrator of an armed attack that left a young man wounded by gunfire, an incident that has sparked outrage and fear among residents.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, April 16, around 9:50 p.m., on 12 de Octubre Street in the Tzautla neighborhood. According to family members, Kevin Uriel N., 30, had just arrived home in his Nissan Tsuru when he was intercepted by the official, who—they allege—was under the influence of alcohol.

Without saying a word, the community leader allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting the young man in the left foot. The sound of the gunshot alarmed neighbors, who rushed out of their homes to find the scene: a wounded man and the assailant, allegedly out of control.

“He’s a danger, he’s armed and drunk!” accused residents, who couldn’t believe that the person who should be ensuring their safety was now being accused of instigating violence.
The injured man received emergency medical attention, while anger grows within the community, which is demanding justice and the official’s immediate arrest.

So far, the silence of the authorities has only increased the tension. Neighbors warn that they will not allow the case to be shelved or for the public office to be used as a shield.

“If a community president acts like this, what can we expect?” they ask.
