The tourism sector in Mexico reported a 9.3% increase in international visitor arrivals during the first two months of 2026, totaling 16.9 million people.
According to indicators from the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), the flow of international tourists reached 8.17 million, representing a 6.5% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
How are tourist arrivals distributed in Mexico?
In financial terms, the economic impact generated between January and February amounted to $6.746 billion. Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, head of the agency, explained that cruise tourism contributed 2.33 million passengers to national ports, generating $203.2 million in revenue.
In the area of air transport, 10.74 million passengers traveled on international flights and 9.66 million on domestic routes.
Regarding rail infrastructure, the Maya Train recorded the transport of 22,821 passengers, a figure that exceeds the 2025 figures by 41%.
Details on the economic impact of tourism in 2026
On the other hand, activity in national museums showed a 16.2% increase, with an influx of 2.19 million people.
Finally, the report for the Easter holiday period indicated the arrival of 7.82 million visitors and a hotel occupancy rate of 74%.
Impact of cruise tourism on the national economy
This period generated economic activity of 30.74 billion pesos, driven by high-attendance events such as the performance in Iztapalapa, which registered a flow of 2.2 million attendees.
