Tourism Ministry reports record tourism in over 20 years

Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), presented data indicating that Mexico reached a record for tourism.

At the morning press conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo on Friday, April 24, at the National Palace, Rodríguez Zamora presented the bimonthly tourism indicators for February, which reflect an 8.5% increase in international visitor arrivals.

“Eight million foreign visitors arrived in February alone, and with the arrival of international tourists, we reached a historic record in 20 years, reaching 3.88 million tourists; that is, those who stayed overnight in our country, a 4.2% increase, but the highest peak in 20 years,” she emphasized.

What are the tourism figures for Mexico?

In terms of economic impact, she mentioned 3 billion dollars and highlighted the cruise ships, which generated more than 1.602 billion pesos in revenue; 1.5 million cruise passengers arrived at the different ports in February. Museum visits increased by 16%, she added.

Regarding the Maya Train, the Secretary of Tourism presented “great news,” mentioning that 22,800 tickets were sold to international tourists, representing a 41% increase compared to January and February of 2025. She highlighted ticket sales through various platforms.

“Foreign tourists now plan their trips, buy their tickets, and arrive in Mexico with a tour package that includes the Maya Train,” she said, also emphasizing religious tourism during Holy Week.
